Robert Nugent Dewar-Durie was born on 26 December 1879.1 He was the son of William Andrew Dewar-Durie and Elizabeth Dewar-Durie of Craigluscar.2 He married, firstly, Ida Caroline Pollexfen Varley, daughter of John Varley, on 14 November 1904 at Teheran, IranG.1 He and Ida Caroline Pollexfen Varley were divorced in 1940.1 He married, secondly, Nora Glendinning in 1943.1 He died on 26 December 1959 at age 80.1
He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1901, with 35th Company Imperial Yeomany, General Rundle's Division.1 He was with the Imperial Bank of Persia between 1901 and 1914.1 He was Financial Advisor to the Caucasus Military Mission during the First World War.1 He was awarded the Stanislas Medal in 1916 2nd class.1 He was awarded the Order of St. Anne of Russia in 1917 2nd class.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1918.1 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1918.1 He was Inspector-General between 1919 and 1928.1
