Ida Caroline Pollexfen Varley was the daughter of John Varley.2 She married Robert Nugent Dewar-Durie, son of William Andrew Dewar-Durie and Elizabeth Dewar-Durie of Craigluscar, on 14 November 1904 at Teheran, IranG.1 She and Robert Nugent Dewar-Durie were divorced in 1940.1 She died on 27 April 1972.1

Lt.-Col. Raymond Varley Dewar Durie of Durie was born on 10 August 1905 at Isfahan, IranG.1 He was the son of Robert Nugent Dewar-Durie and Ida Caroline Pollexfen Varley.2 He married, firstly, Joan Dolbey, daughter of John Lloyd Dolbey, on 31 March 1932 at Peking, ChinaG.1 He married, secondly, Frances St. John Maule, daughter of Colonel Henry Noel St. John Maule, on 24 March 1938.1 He died on 29 March 1999 at age 93.1
He was given the name of Raymond Varley Dewar-Durie at birth.1 He was educated at Blundell's School, Tiverton, Devon, EnglandG.1 He was commissioned in 1925, in the service of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders.1 He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He fought in the Second World War, in Shanghai when it fell to the Japanese, escaping to Chungking, a journey of 2,000 miles which took three months and for which he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was Assistant Military Attaché to Nanking in 1949, where he acted as intrepeter in connection with teh evacuation of wounded from H.M.S. Amethyst.1 He was with Guinness, Belfast between 1958 and 1959.1 He held the position of Chief of the Name and Arms of Durie from on 25 May 1988.1 He was recognised by Lord Lyon King of Arms, and matriculated his arms at the Lyons Court on 25 May 1988.1 On 25 May 1998 his name was legally changed to Raymond Varley Dewar Durie.1
