Thomas Fane, 8th Earl of Westmorland was baptised on 8 March 1700/1.2 He was the son of Henry Fane and Anne Scrope.1 He married Elizabeth Swymmer, daughter of William Swymmer, on 8 August 1727.2 He died on 12 November 1771 at age 70.
He was clerk to the Society of Merchant Venturers.2 He was a merchant at Bristol, EnglandG.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Lyme Regis between 1753 and 1762.2 He was admitted to Middle Temple in 1759 entitled to practise as a barrister.2 He succeeded as the 8th Earl of Westmorland [E., 1624] on 26 August 1762.1 He succeeded as the 8th Baron Burghersh, co. Sussex [E., 1624] on 26 August 1762.1
