Francis Charles Joseph Vane-Tempest was born on 25 January 1911.1 He was the son of Major Francis Adolphus Vane-Tempest and Gertrude Magdalen Elliot.1 He married, firstly, Pamela Mary Abel-Smith, daughter of Major Edwin Philip Abel-Smith and Gertrude Mary Hodgson, on 2 June 1931.1 He married, secondly, Penelope Joan Bevan, daughter of Edmund Henry Bevan and Hon. Joan Mary Conyers Norton, in 1935.1 He and Penelope Joan Bevan were divorced in 1950.1 He died on 5 October 1994 at age 83.1
He was educated at Downside School, Bath, Somerset, EnglandG.1 His marriage to Pamela Mary Abel-Smith was annulled in 1935.1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He gained the rank of Flight Lieutenant in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserves.1
