Sir James Naesmyth of Posso, 1st Bt. was the son of John Naesmyth of Posso and Isabella Murray.2 He married, firstly, Jane Stewart after 1685.2 He married, secondly, Janet Murray, daughter of Sir William Murray, 1st Bt. and Lady Janet Johnstone.2 He married, thirdly, Barbara Pringle, daughter of Andrew Pringle.2 He died in July 1720.2
He was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 1684.2 He was created 1st Baronet Naesmyth, of Posso [Nova Scotia] on 31 July 1706.
