John Chartres was born on 5 October 1862 at Birkenhead, Cheshire, England.2 He was the son of John Smith Chartres and Margaret Henry.3,1 He married Annie Vivanti, daughter of Anselmo Vivanti and Annie Lindau.1 He died on 14 May 1927 at age 64 at Dartry Road, Rathgar, County Dublin, Ireland.2
He was educated between 1876 and 1879 at Wellington College, Berkshire, England.2 He was educated at London University, London, England.2 He was educated in 1884 at King's Inns, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.2 He was awarded the Powell Prizeman in Common Law in 1885 Middle Temple.1 He was admitted to Middle Temple in January 1908 entitled to practise as a Barrister-at-Law.1 He was section director of labour intelligence and statistics, War Office between 1915 and 1918.1 He was with the Ministry of Labour between 1918 and 1920.2 He was Secretary of the Sinn Fein Delegation to London in 1921.1 In 1921 he drafted the Irish section of the Treaty of 1921.1 He lived at London, EnglandG.1 He lived at Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG.1
