Sir Rowland Edward Whitehead, 3rd Bt. was born on 1 September 1863.2 He was the son of Sir James Whitehead, 1st Bt. and Mercy Matilda Hinds.2 He married Ethel Mary Leonie Rathbone, daughter of Philip Henry Rathbone, on 18 May 1893.2 He died on 9 October 1942 at age 79.2
