     Jean Fleming was born circa 1554.1 She was the daughter of James Fleming, 4th Lord Fleming and Lady Barbara Hamilton.1 She married, firstly, John Maitland, 1st Lord Maitland of Thirlestane, son of Sir Richard Maitland, Lord Lethington and Mary Cranston, circa 16 January 1582/83.1 She married by contract, secondly, John Kennedy, 5th Earl of Cassillis, son of Gilbert Kennedy, 4th Earl of Cassillis and Margaret Lyon, on 4 November 1597. The desire 'to keep his estate entire' was the cause of his marriage with a woman past child bearing age.1 She died on 23 June 1609.1 She was buried at Haddington, East Lothian, ScotlandG.1
     From before 1589, her married name became Maitland. From 4 November 1597, her married name became Kennedy. After her marriage, Jean Fleming was styled as Countess of Cassillis.

     From 1669/70, her married name became Burnet.1

     Rt. Rev. Gilbert Burnet was born in 1643.2 He was the son of Robert Burnet, Lord Crimond and Rachel Johnston.3 He married, thirdly, Elizabeth Blake, daughter of Sir Richard Blake.2 He married, firstly, Lady Margaret Kennedy, daughter of John Kennedy, 6th Earl of Cassillis and Lady Jean Hamilton, in 1669/70.1 He married, secondly, Mary Scott on 25 May 1687.4 He died in 1716.3
     He wrote the book History of His Own Time (ASIN: B003TO6LKW.)5 He was a Professor of Divinity in 1669/70 at University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, ScotlandG.1 He held the office of Bishop of Salisbury between 1689 and 1715.1
