Lt.-Col. John Noel Ronald Loveday was born on 22 March 1911.2 He was the son of Arthur Frederick Loveday and Mary Cornelia Backus.3 He married Nancy Buxton, daughter of Ivor Buxton and Phyllis Dorothy Barclay, on 1 June 1940.1 He died on 15 May 1944 at age 33 at Monte Cassino, Italy, killed on active service.1
He was educated between 1924 and 1929 at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, England.4 He graduated from Hertford College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, between 1929 and 1932 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)4 He was commissioned in 1932 with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, in the service of the 16t/5th Lancers.4 He gained the rank of Captain in 1936.4 He fought in the Second World War, in North Africa and Italy.1 He gained the rank of Major in 1940.4 In 1943 Lieutenant-Colonel.1
