     John Wemyss, 1st Earl of Wemyss was the son of Sir John Wemyss of Wemyss and Mary Stewart.¹ A contract for the marriage of John Wemyss, 1st Earl of Wemyss and Jean Gray was signed circa September 1609.² He died on 22 November 1649.¹
     He was appointed Knight between 1615 and 1618.¹ He was created 1st Baronet Wemyss [Nova Scotia] on 29 May 1625.¹ He was created 1st Lord Wemyss of Elcho [Scotland] on 1 April 1628.¹ He was created 1st Earl of Wemyss [Scotland] on 25 June 1633.¹ He was created 1st Lord Elcho and Methil [Scotland] on 25 June 1633.¹ Before 1638 he was a supporter of the Covenanters.¹ He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in 1641.¹

     Jean Gray was the daughter of Patrick Gray, 6th Lord Gray and Lady Mary Stewart.¹ A contract for the marriage of Jean Gray and John Wemyss, 1st Earl of Wemyss was signed circa September 1609.¹ She died on 17 August 1640.²
     From circa September 1609, her married name became Wemyss.¹ After her marriage, Jean Gray was styled as Countess of Wemyss on 25 June 1633.

     Lady Anne Wemyss was born on 18 October 1675 at Wemyss, Fife, Scotland^G.^2,3,4 She was the daughter of Sir James Wemyss, Lord Burntisland and Margaret Wemyss, Countess of Wemyss.^1,5 A contract for the marriage of Lady Anne Wemyss and David Leslie, 5th Earl of Leven was signed on 3 September 1691.⁶ She died on 9 January 1702 at age 26 at Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland^G.²
     From 3 September 1691, her married name became Leslie.⁶ After her marriage, Lady Anne Wemyss was styled as Countess of Leven after 3 September 1691.

     Lady Margaret Wemyss was born on 1 April 1677.² She was the daughter of Sir James Wemyss, Lord Burntisland and Margaret Wemyss, Countess of Wemyss.³ She was baptised on 12 April 1677 at Wemyss, Fife, Scotland^G.⁴ A contract for the marriage of Lady Margaret Wemyss and David Carnegie, 4th Earl of Northesk was signed on 29 January 1697.⁵ She died on 29 March 1763 at age 85.²
     From 29 January 1697, her married name became Carnegie. After her marriage, Lady Margaret Wemyss was styled as Countess of Northesk on 29 January 1697.

     George Mackenzie of Tarbat, 1st Earl of Cromarty was born in 1630 at Innerteil, Scotland^G.¹ He was the son of Sir John Mackenzie of Tarbat, 1st Bt. and Margaret Erskine.¹ He married, firstly, Anne Sinclair, daughter of Sir James Sinclair of Mey, 1st Bt. and Elizabeth Leslie, circa 6 July 1654.² He married, secondly, Margaret Wemyss, Countess of Wemyss, daughter of David Wemyss, 2nd Earl of Wemyss and Lady Margaret Leslie, on 29 April 1700.³ He died on 27 August 1714 at New Tarbat, Scotland^G.^4,5
     He graduated from King's College, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland^G, in 1646.¹ He graduated from University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland^G.¹ From 1654 to 1655 he raised and maintained a Royalist force, but was defeated by General Morgan.⁵ He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Mackenzie, of Tarbat on 10 September 1654.⁶ Between 1655 and 1660 he lived on the Continent.⁵ He held the office of a Lord of Session [Scotland] from 1 June 1661 to 16 February 1663/64.⁶ He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] on 23 April 1662.⁶ He held the office of Lord Justice General [Scotland] between October 1678 and June 1680.⁶ He held the office of a Lord of Session [Scotland] in 1681.⁶ He held the office of Lord Clerk Register [Scotland] between October 1681 and April 1689.⁶ He was created 1st Lord Macleod and Castlehaven [Scotland] on 15 April 1685.⁶ He was created 1st Viscount of Tarbat [Scotland] on 15 April 1685.⁶ He held the office of Lord Clerk Register [Scotland] between March 1692 and 1695.⁶ He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) on 30 November 1692.⁶ He held the office of Secretary of State between November 1702 and 1705.⁶ He was created 1st Earl of Cromarty [Scotland] on 1 January 1702/3.⁶ He was created 1st Viscount of Tarbat [Scotland] on 1 January 1702/3.⁶ He was created 1st Lord Macleod and Castlehaven [Scotland] on 1 January 1702/3.⁶ He held the office of Captain General of the Company of Archers [Scotland] between May 1703 and 1714.⁶ He resigned as baronet, infavour of his second son in 1704.⁵ He held the office of Lord Justice General [Scotland] between 1705 and 1710.⁶

     David Wemyss, Lord Elcho was born on 3 October 1698.¹ He was the son of David Wemyss, 4th Earl of Wemyss and Lady Anne Douglas.¹ He died on 16 December 1715 at age 17, unmarried.¹
     He was styled as Lord Elcho.¹ He was admitted to Royal Company of Archers.¹

     Henry St. Clair, 1st/10th Lord Sinclair was baptised on 3 June 1660.¹ He was the son of John St. Clair of Hermanston and Catherine Sinclair, Mistress of St. Clair.² He married Grizel Cockburn, daughter of Sir James Cockburn of that Ilk, 1st Bt. and Grissel Hay, on 30 December 1680.¹ He died circa 11 March 1723.² He was buried on 14 March 1723.²
     He succeeded as the 10th Lord Sinclair [S., 1449] on 10 November 1674.¹ He was created 1st Lord Sinclair [Scotland] on 1 June 1677, with precedence of the first creation of 1449, and a special remainder to his brother John, and his heirs male, and in default of which, to father's brothers Robert, George and Matthew successively and the heirs mamle of their bodies.¹ In 1689 he was the only peer to object to the Scottish Parliament settling the Crown on King William III and Queen Mary following the flight of King JamesVII/II.²

     Lady Margaret Wemyss was the daughter of David Wemyss, 4th Earl of Wemyss and Elizabeth St. Clair.² She married James Stuart, 8th Earl of Moray, son of Francis Stuart, 7th Earl of Moray and Jean Elphinstone, on 24 April 1740.¹ She died on 31 August 1779.¹
     After her marriage, Lady Margaret Wemyss was styled as Countess of Moray on 24 April 1740. From 24 April 1740, her married name became Stuart.

     James Stuart, 8th Earl of Moray was born in 1708.² He was the son of Francis Stuart, 7th Earl of Moray and Jean Elphinstone.² He married, firstly, Grace Lockhart, daughter of George Lockhart, 2nd of Carnwath and Lady Euphemia Montgomerie, in December 1734.¹ He married, secondly, Lady Margaret Wemyss, daughter of David Wemyss, 4th Earl of Wemyss and Elizabeth St. Clair, on 24 April 1740.² He died on 5 July 1767.¹
     He succeeded as the 6th Lord Saint Colme [S., 1620] on 11 December 1739.² He succeeded as the 8th Earl of Moray [S., 1562] on 11 December 1739.² He succeeded as the 8th Lord Abernethy [S., 1562] on 11 December 1739.² He succeeded as the 8th Lord Strathdearn [S., 1563] on 11 December 1739.² He succeeded as the 8th Lord Doune [S., 1581] on 11 December 1739.² He was appointed Knight, Order of the Thistle (K.T.) in 1741.² He held the office of Representative Peer [Scotland] between 1741 and 1767.²

     Augustus ffolliott Powell was born in 1848 at Ashbourne, Derbyshire, England.¹ He was the son of Thomas ffolliott Powell and Isabella Cooper.¹ He died on 15 June 1930.¹
