     He fought in the Boer War in 1900.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1906 in the Cheshire Regiment.1

     He was admitted to Lincoln's Inn in 1806 entitled to practise as a barrister-at-law.1 He was appointed King's Counsel (K.C.) in 1831.1 He held the office of Bencher of Lincoln's Inn.1

     Mary Augusta Dalrymple Poltoratskaya was born in 1794 at St. Petersburg, Russia.2 She was the daughter of General Alexander Markovitch Poltoratsky and Maria Gascoigne.1,3 She married, firstly, Francis James Adam, son of Rt. Hon. William Adam of Blair and Hon. Eleanor Elphinstone, on 11 August 1817.1 She married, secondly, Reverend Richard Lister Venables on 6 February 1834.1 She died on 5 October 1865 at Llysdinam, Newbridge-on-Wye, Breconshire, Wales.1
     From 11 August 1817, her married name became Adam.1 From 6 February 1834, her married name became Venables.1
