Alec Lionel Rea was born in 1878.1 He was the son of Rt. Hon. Russell Rea and Jane Philip Mactaggart.1 He married, firstly, Ethel Marguerite Requa, daughter of Charles H. Requa, on 18 April 1900.1 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Collins on 17 July 1947.1 He died on 11 February 1953, without issue.1
He held the office of High Sheriff of Westmorland in 1917.1 He was a merchant banker.1 He was founder of Reandean, producers of plays by John Galsworthy and Clemence Dane.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1 He was awarded the Chevalier, Legion of Honour.1 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1945.1
