Sir Ivone Augustine Kirkpatrick was born on 3 February 1897 at Wellington, India.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. Ivone Kirkpatrick and Mary Hardinge.1 He married Violet Caulfeild Cottell, daughter of Colonel Reginald James Cope Cottell and Edith Clementina Ruthven, on 10 January 1929.1 He died on 25 May 1964 at age 67 at Donacomper, Celbridge, County Kildare, Ireland.1 He was buried at Donacomper Cemetery, Celbridge, County Kildare, Ireland.2
He was with the Foreign Office between 1919 and 1957.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1939.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1948.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1951.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.) in 1953.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) in 1956.1 He wrote the book Mussolini: study of a demagogue, published 1964.1
