     Mary Dawnay was born on 15 April 1936.1 She is the daughter of Lt.-Col. Ronald Dawnay and Lady Elizabeth Katherine Grey.1 She married Sir John Richard Walter Reginald Carew Pole, 13th Bt., son of Sir John Gawen Carew Pole, 12th Bt. and Cynthia Mary Burns, in 1974.2
     She was Lady-in-Waiting to HRH Princess Anne in April 1970.1 From 1974, her married name became Carew Pole.2 She was appointed Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) in 1983.2 She was appointed Lieutenant, Royal Victorian Order (L.V.O.) in 1983.1 She held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1 She was appointed Commander, Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.) in 2003. She was appointed Dame Commander, Royal Victorian Order (D.C.V.O.) in 2018.3

Hugh Dawnay and Lady Susan de la Poer Beresford.1 He married Julian Mary Brassey, daughter of Major Henry Leonard Campbell Brassey, 1st Baron Brassey of Apethorpe, on 28 March 1938.1 He died on 19 March 1946 at age 33.1
     He gained the rank of Wing Commander in the Royal Air Force.1 He fought in the Second World War.1

     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He lived in 2003 at Château Ragny, Tournay sur Odon, FranceG.1
