     He was educated at Haileybury College, Haileybury, Hertfordshire, England^G.² He graduated from Peterhouse College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England^G, in 1938 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)¹ He was commissioned in 1941 with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, in the service of the Royal Artillery.² He fought in the Second World War, where he became a POW in Borneo.² In 1955 at Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, he founded the Bell Language School.² He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1975.¹
