     Arthur William Wakefield was born on 13 April 1876.1 He was the son of William Wakefield and Marianne Wavell.2 He married Marjorie Younger, daughter of James D. Younger, on 1 June 1910.1 He died on 23 February 1949 at age 72.1
     He was educated at Sedbergh School, Sedbergh, Cumbria, England.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He graduated from London Hospital, London, England, with a Bachelor of Medicine (B.Ch.)1 He graduated from London Hospital, London, England, with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.)1 He gained the rank of Trooper in the 70th County, Imperial Yeomanry.1 He fought in the Boer War.1 He was Medical Officer to Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen in Labrador in 1908.1 He was registered as a Member, Royal College of Surgeons (M.R.C.S.)1 He was registered as a Licentiate, Royal College of Physicians, London (L.R.C.P.)1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Newfoundland Regiment.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in dispatches.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Army Medical Corps.1 He was member of Mt. Everest Expedition in 1922.1
