Sir John Hamilton Franks was born on 10 May 1848.1 He was the son of Robert Fergusson Franks and Henrietta Bushe.2 He married Catherine Lumsden, daughter of Harry Lumsden, on 8 December 1874.1 He died on 27 January 1915 at age 66.1
He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Dublin.1 He was Secretary of the Irish Land Commission between 1888 and 1910.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1896.1 He was appointed Knight Bachelor in 1902.1
