James Stopford, 1st Earl of Courtown was born circa 1700.1 He was the son of James Stopford and Frances Jones.1 He married Elizabeth Smith, daughter of Rt. Rev. Edward Smith and Eilzabeth Smyth, on 24 February 1726/27.1 He died on 12 January 1770 at Courtown, County Wexford, IrelandG.1 He was buried at St. Andrew's Church, Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG.1
