     He was appointed Knight in 1819.¹ He held the office of Chief Justice of Ceylon.¹

     Edward Walter Giffard was born in 1861.¹ He was the son of Edward Giffard and Rosamunde Catherine Pennell.² He married Lady Constance Mary Evelyn Giffard, daughter of Hardinge Stanley Giffard, 1st Earl of Halsbury and Wilhelmina Woodfall, on 21 April 1902.¹ He died on 8 March 1938.¹
     He lived at Charts Edge, Weserham, Kent, England^G.¹
