     Eleanor de Hastings was the daughter of Sir Henry de Hastings and Ada of Huntingdon.¹ She married Sir William de Harcourt, son of Sir Richard de Harcourt and Arabella de Quency, in 1256.^1,2 She died after 1295.²

     He was educated at Wolverhampton Grammar School, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England^G.¹ He graduated from Wadham College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G, in 1925 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)¹ He was with the Home Civil Service in 1935.¹ He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1942.¹ He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1946.¹ He was Secretary to Cabinet between 1947 and 1962.¹ He graduated from Wadham College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G, in 1949 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)¹ He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) in 1951.¹ He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1953.¹ He held the office of Joint Permanent Secretary to Treasury between 1956 and 1962.¹ He was Head of the Civil Service between 1956 and 1962.¹ He was chairman of the BBC in 1964.¹ He was created 1st Baron Normanbrook, of Chelsea, co. London [U.K.] on 24 January 1964.¹ On his death his title became extinct.
