James Ogilvy, 3rd Earl of Findlater was the son of Patrick Ogilvy, 2nd Earl of Findlater and Lady Elizabeth Ogilvy.1 He married, firstly, Lady Anne Montgomerie, daughter of Hugh Montgomerie, 7th Earl of Eglinton and Lady Anne Hamilton, circa 1658.2 He married, secondly, Lady Mary Hamilton, daughter of William Hamilton, 2nd Duke of Hamilton and Lady Elizabeth Maxwell, in October 1703.3 He died in 1711.4
He succeeded as the 4th Lord Ogilvy of Deskford [S., 1615] in May 1659.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Earl of Findlater [S., 1638] in May 1659.3
