     James Ogilvy, 3rd Earl of Findlater was the son of Patrick Ogilvy, 2nd Earl of Findlater and Lady Elizabeth Ogilvy.¹ He married, firstly, Lady Anne Montgomerie, daughter of Hugh Montgomerie, 7th Earl of Eglinton and Lady Anne Hamilton, circa 1658.² He married, secondly, Lady Mary Hamilton, daughter of William Hamilton, 2nd Duke of Hamilton and Lady Elizabeth Maxwell, in October 1703.³ He died in 1711.⁴
     He succeeded as the 4th Lord Ogilvy of Deskford [S., 1615] in May 1659.¹ He succeeded as the 3rd Earl of Findlater [S., 1638] in May 1659.³

Francis Montgomerie is the son of Hugh Montgomerie, 7th Earl of Eglinton and Lady Mary Leslie.¹ He married, secondly, Elizabeth Sinclair, daughter of Sir Robert Sinclair of Longformacus, 1st Bt. and Elizabeth Douglas.¹ He married, firstly, Margaret Leslie, Countess of Leven, daughter of Alexander Leslie, 2nd Earl of Leven and Margaret Howard, circa 10 October 1673.²

Francis Montgomerie, son of Hugh Montgomerie, 7th Earl of Eglinton and Lady Mary Leslie.³ She married, firstly, Sir James Primrose, son of Sir Archibald Primrose, Lord Carrington and Elizabeth Keith.⁴

     Lt.-Col. John Montgomerie is the son of Hon. Francis Montgomerie and Elizabeth Sinclair.¹ A contract for the marriage of Lt.-Col. John Montgomerie and Lady Mary Carmichael was signed on 28 September 1704.²
     He held the office of Master of the Mint [Scotland].¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Ayrshire between 1708 and 1722.¹

     Elizabeth Montgomerie was the daughter of Hon. Francis Montgomerie and Elizabeth Sinclair.¹ She married Colonel Hon. Patrick Ogilvy of Lonmay and Inchmartine, son of James Ogilvy, 3rd Earl of Findlater and Lady Anne Montgomerie.² She died on 29 June 1753.²

Francis Montgomerie and Elizabeth Sinclair.¹ He married, firstly, Elizabeth Baird, daughter of Sir James Baird of Auchmedden, after 1669.³ He died on 20 September 1737.²
