Thomas Ruthven, 1st Lord Ruthven of Freeland was the son of William Ruthven and Isabella Fothringham.2 He married Isabel Balfour, daughter of Robert Balfour, Lord Balfour of Burleigh and Margaret Balfour, Baroness Balfour of Burleigh.2 He died on 6 May 1671.2
He was appointed Knight in 1633.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Perthshire between 1639 and 1641.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in 1643.2 He gained the rank of Colonel in 1644 in the an anti-royalist regiment.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Perthshire from 1645 to 1646.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Perthshire from 1649 to 1650.2 He was created 1st Lord Ruthven of Freeland [Scotland] from 31 March 1651 to 28 May 1651, possibly ennobled by King Charles I to induce a change of heart. His patent was said to have been lost when Freeland House burned down in 1750.2

John Ruthven was born before his parent's marriage before 1480.1 He was the son of William Ruthven, 1st Lord Ruthven and Isabel Livingstone.2 He married Libra Livingston.1
He received Cultvainy and Drumdrane from his father for renouncing the name of Lindsay and taking the name and arms of Ruthven.1 On 12 July 1480 he was legitimated.1

Brig.-Gen. O'Donnel Colley Grattan was born on 13 June 1855.2 He was the son of Henry Colley Grattan and Lucy Nugent.3 He married Helen Randal Trench, daughter of Maj.-Gen. Henry Luke Le Poer Trench and Clara Nugent, on 4 January 1877.1 He died on 5 March 1929 at age 73.1
