Sir William Button, 1st Bt. was born circa 1584.1 He was the son of William Button and Jane Lamb.1 He married Ruth Dunch, daughter of Walter Dunch and Deborah Pilkington.1 He died on 16 January 1654/55.1 He was buried at Wraxall, Wiltshire, EnglandG.1 His will (dated 29 December 1654) was proven (by probate) on 10 March 1654/55.1
He matriculated at Queen's College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, on 13 February 1600/1.1 He was appointed Knight on 15 July 1605 at Whitehall, London, EnglandG.1 He held the office of Sheriff of Wiltshire from 1611 to 1612.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Morpeth in 1614.1 He was created 1st Baronet Button, of Alton, co. Wilts. [England] on 18 March 1621/22.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Wiltshire from 1628 to 1629.1 On 2 January 1647 he was fined £2,380, as a Royalist.1
