Sir Godfrey Copley, 1st Bt. was born on 21 February 1623.1 He was the son of William Copley and Dorothy Booth.2 He married, firstly, Eleanor Walmesley, daughter of Sir Thomas Walmesley and Johana Molyneux.3 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Stanhope, daughter of William Stanhope.3 He died in February 1677/78.3
He was created 1st Baronet Copley, of Sprotborough, co. Yorks [England] on 17 June 1661.4
