Hon. Robert Barlow Palmer Byng was born on 30 November 1816.1 He was the son of Vice-Admiral George Byng, 6th Viscount Torrington and Frances Harriet Barlow.2 He married Elizabeth Maria Lowther Gwatkin, daughter of Maj.-Gen. Edward Gwatkin and Hetty Elizabeth Gascoigne, on 11 February 1839.1 He died on 18 December 1857 at age 41 at Alumbagh, IndiaG, killed while on active service.1
He gained the rank of Major in the Bengal Native Infantry.3 He fought in the Indian Mutiny in 1857.3

George Stanley Byng, 8th Viscount Torrington was born on 29 April 1841.1 He was the son of Hon. Robert Barlow Palmer Byng and Elizabeth Maria Lowther Gwatkin.1 He married, firstly, Alice Arabella Jameson, daughter of James Jameson, on 19 January 1882.1 He married, secondly, Emmeline St. Maur Seymour, daughter of Reverend Henry Seymour and Susanah Biscoe Tritton, on 3 February 1885.1 He died on 20 October 1889 at age 48.1
He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the The Rifle Brigade.1 He was Aide-de-Camp and a Private Secretary to Lord Lieutenant of Ireland.1 He succeeded as the 8th Viscount Torrington, co. Devon [G.B., 1721] on 27 April 1884.1 He succeeded as the 8th Baronet Byng, of Wrotham, Kent [G.B., 1715] on 27 April 1884.1 He succeeded as the 8th Baron Byng of Southill, co. Bedford [G.B., 1721] on 27 April 1884.1 He was Lord-in-Waiting between March 1889 and October 1889.1
