     Hon. Robert Barlow Palmer Byng was born on 30 November 1816.¹ He was the son of Vice-Admiral George Byng, 6th Viscount Torrington and Frances Harriet Barlow.² He married Elizabeth Maria Lowther Gwatkin, daughter of Maj.-Gen. Edward Gwatkin and Hetty Elizabeth Gascoigne, on 11 February 1839.¹ He died on 18 December 1857 at age 41 at Alumbagh, India^G, killed while on active service.¹
     He gained the rank of Major in the Bengal Native Infantry.³ He fought in the Indian Mutiny in 1857.³

     George Stanley Byng, 8th Viscount Torrington was born on 29 April 1841.¹ He was the son of Hon. Robert Barlow Palmer Byng and Elizabeth Maria Lowther Gwatkin.¹ He married, firstly, Alice Arabella Jameson, daughter of James Jameson, on 19 January 1882.¹ He married, secondly, Emmeline St. Maur Seymour, daughter of Reverend Henry Seymour and Susanah Biscoe Tritton, on 3 February 1885.¹ He died on 20 October 1889 at age 48.¹
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the The Rifle Brigade.¹ He was Aide-de-Camp and a Private Secretary to Lord Lieutenant of Ireland.¹ He succeeded as the 8th Viscount Torrington, co. Devon [G.B., 1721] on 27 April 1884.¹ He succeeded as the 8th Baronet Byng, of Wrotham, Kent [G.B., 1715] on 27 April 1884.¹ He succeeded as the 8th Baron Byng of Southill, co. Bedford [G.B., 1721] on 27 April 1884.¹ He was Lord-in-Waiting between March 1889 and October 1889.¹

     Hetty Theophilia Gwatkin was born on 14 December 1818.¹ She was the daughter of Maj.-Gen. Edward Gwatkin and Hetty Elizabeth Gascoigne.¹ She married Dacres Fitzherbert Evans.²
     Her married name became Evans.²

     Dacres Fitzherbert Evans married Hetty Theophilia Gwatkin, daughter of Maj.-Gen. Edward Gwatkin and Hetty Elizabeth Gascoigne.¹ He died in 1856.¹

     Penelope Smith was born on 10 August 1797.^1,2 She was the daughter of Alexander Smith and Mary James.² She married, firstly, Captain Alexander Bannerman on 23 February 1822 at Cawnpore, India^G.² She married, secondly, Maj.-Gen. Edward Gwatkin, son of Robert Lovell Gwatkin and Theophila Palmer, on 21 September 1826.¹ She died on 7 October 1854 at age 57 at Musoorie, India^G.¹
     From 23 February 1822, her married name became Bannerman.² From 21 September 1826, her married name became Gwatkin.¹

     Mary Gwatkin was born on 24 October 1827.¹ She was the daughter of Maj.-Gen. Edward Gwatkin and Penelope Smith.¹ She died on 11 March 1836 at age 8 at Meerut, India^G.¹

     Laura Cunliffe Gwatkin was born on 20 January 1833.¹ She was the daughter of Maj.-Gen. Edward Gwatkin and Penelope Smith.¹ She married James Anthony Steel on 13 June 1854.¹ She died on 26 December 1920 at age 87.¹
     From 13 June 1854, her married name became Steel.¹

     James Anthony Steel married Laura Cunliffe Gwatkin, daughter of Maj.-Gen. Edward Gwatkin and Penelope Smith, on 13 June 1854.¹ He died on 1 September 1902.¹

     James Steel was born after 1854.¹ He was the son of James Anthony Steel and Laura Cunliffe Gwatkin.¹

     Anne Gwatkin was born on 21 January 1785.¹ She was the daughter of Robert Lovell Gwatkin and Theophila Palmer.¹ She died on 26 December 1863 at age 78 at Plymouth, Devon, England^G.¹
