     Ludwig Friedrich Alexander Herzog von Württemberg was born on 30 August 1756 at Treptow, Brandenburg, GermanyG.2 He was the son of Friedrich II Eugen Heinrich Herzog von Württemberg and Friederike Dorothea Prinzessin von Brandenburg-Schwedt.1 He married, firstly, Princess Maria Anna Czartoryska, daughter of Prince Adam Czartoryski and Isabella Flemming, Countess Flemming, on 28 October 1784 at Siedlic, PolandG.1 He and Princess Maria Anna Czartoryska were divorced between 1792 and 1793.2 He married, secondly, Henriette Prinzessin von Nassau-Weilburg, daughter of Karl Christian Fürst von Nassau-Weilburg and Wilhelmina Karolina van Oranje-Nassau, Princess of Orange, on 28 January 1797.2 He died on 20 September 1817 at age 61 at Kirchheim unter Teck, GermanyG.2
     He gained the rank of General of Cavalry.

     Alexander Joseph Prinz von Battenberg was born on 5 April 1857 at Verona, ItalyG.2 He was the son of Alexander Ludwig Georg Friedrich Emil Prinz von Hessen und bei Rhein and Julie Therese Gräfin von Hauke.2,1 He married Johanna Maria Louise Loisinger, daughter of Johann Loisinger and Maria Mayr, on 6 February 1889 at Mentone, Alpes-Maritimes, FranceG.2 He died on 17 November 1893 at age 36 at Graz, AustriaG.2
     Alexander Joseph Prinz von Battenberg also went by the nick-name of Sandro. He gained the title of Prinz von Battenberg. He was created Prince Alexander I of Bulgaria on 29 April 1879.3,2 He was deposed as Prince of Bulgaria, expelled by military insurgents on 21 August 1886.2 On 29 August 1886 he returned to Bulgaria as Prince.2 He abdicated as Prine of Bulgaria, and left the country on 7 September 1886 on 3 September 1886.2 He was created Graf von Hartenau [Hesse and by Rhine] on 11 January 1889, by Grand Duke Ludwig IV of Hesse and by Rhine.2

     He succeeded as the Großherzog Ludwig III von Hessen und bei Rhein in 1848.3 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.) in 1865.2
