     William Stanhope, 1st Earl of Harrington was born circa 1683.1 He was the son of John Stanhope and Dorothy Agard.1 He married Anne Griffith, daughter of Colonel Edward Griffith and Elizabeth Lawrence, circa 1718.1 He died on 8 December 1756.1
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1704 entitled to practise as a barrister.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Derby between 1715 and 1722.1 He was Envoy to Madrid from 1717 to 1718.1 He was Envoy to Turin between 1718 and 1720.1 He was Envoy to Madrid in 1720.1 He held the office of Ambassador to Spain between 1721 and 1727.1 He held the office of Ambassador to the Congress of Aix-la-Chapelle in 1727.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1727.1 He held the office of Vice-Chamberlain between 1727 and 1730.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Derby between 1727 and 1730.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Steyning between April 1727 and July 1727.1 He held the office of Ambassador to Spain from 1729 to 1730.1 He held the office of Secretary of State, North Department from 1730 to February 1741/42.1 He was created 1st Baron Harrington, co. Northampton [Great Britain] on 6 January 1729/30.1 He held the office of Lord President of the Council from February 1741/42 to January 1744/45.1 He was created 1st Earl of Harrington, co. Northampton [Great Britain] on 9 February 1741/42.1 He was created 1st Viscount Petersham of Petersham, co. Surrey [Great Britain] on 9 February 1741/42.1 He held the office of Secretary of State, North Department between 1744 and 1746.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland between 1746 and 1750.1 He gained the rank of General of Foot in 1747.1

     Anne Griffith was the daughter of Colonel Edward Griffith and Elizabeth Lawrence.1 She married William Stanhope, 1st Earl of Harrington, son of John Stanhope and Dorothy Agard, circa 1718.1 She died on 18 December 1719.1
     From circa 1718, her married name became Stanhope.1

     Hon. Thomas Stanhope was born on 18 December 1719. He was the son of William Stanhope, 1st Earl of Harrington and Anne Griffith.1 He died on 12 January 1743 at age 23, unmarried.1

     Admiral Sir Charles Rowley, 1st Bt. was born on 16 December 1770.2 He was the son of Rear-Admiral Sir Joshua Rowley, 1st Bt. and Sarah Burton.3 He married Elizabeth King, daughter of Sir Richard King, 1st Bt. and Susannah Margaretta Coker, on 7 December 1797.2 He died on 13 October 1845 at age 74.2
     He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Hanoverian Order (G.C.H.)2 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.)2 He was created 1st Baronet Rowley, of Hill House, co. Berks [U.K.] on 21 March 1836.2 He gained the rank of Admiral of the White in the Royal Navy.3

     Elizabeth King was the daughter of Sir Richard King, 1st Bt. and Susannah Margaretta Coker.3,2 She married Admiral Sir Charles Rowley, 1st Bt., son of Rear-Admiral Sir Joshua Rowley, 1st Bt. and Sarah Burton, on 7 December 1797.1 She died on 11 January 1838.1
     She and William IV Hanover, King of the United Kingdom were associated.2 Her married name became Rowley.
