Maj.-Gen. Sir Edward Wolstenholme Ward was born on 17 August 1823.1 He was the son of Hon. John Petty Ward and Eleanor Erskine.1 He married Anne Sophia Campbell, daughter of Hon. Robert Campbell, on 21 November 1857.1 He died on 5 February 1890 at age 66.1
He held the office of Deputy-Master of the Royal Mint, Sydney between 1854 and 1867.1 He held the office of Member of the Legislative Council (M.L.C.) [New South Wales] between 1860 and 1865.1 He held the office of Deputy-Master of the Royal Mint, Melbourne between 1867 and 1876.1 He gained the rank of Major-General in the Royal Engineers.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.)1
