     Ann Fortune Smith was born on 24 February 1920.3,4 She was the daughter of Captain Evan Cadogan Eric Smith and Helen Williams.1,3 She married Hugh Denis Charles FitzRoy, 11th Duke of Grafton, son of Charles Alfred Euston FitzRoy, 10th Duke of Grafton and Lady Doreen Maria Josepha Sydney Buxton, on 12 October 1946.1 She died on 3 December 2021 at age 101.4
     Ann Fortune Smith usually went by her middle name of Fortune.1 From 12 October 1946, her married name became FitzRoy. She held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for the County of London in 1949.5 She held the office of Lady of the Bedchamber to HM Queen Elizabeth II between 1953 and 1966.5 She was appointed Commander, Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.) in 1965.5 She held the office of Mistress of the Robes to HM Queen Elizabeth II in 1967.5 She was appointed Dame Commander, Royal Victorian Order (D.C.V.O.) in 1970.5 After her marriage, Ann Fortune Smith was styled as Duchess of Grafton on 11 November 1970.
