     Captain William Preston was born in 1801 at Titchfield, Hampshire, England.1 He was the son of Admiral D'Arcy Preston and Sophia Nares.1 He married Hamilla Mary Mangles, daughter of James Mangles and Mary Hughes, on 17 October 1833 at Stoke next Guildford, Surrey, England.1 He died on 12 December 1851 at Board Bill House, Cuckfield, Sussex, England.1
     He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy.1
