Major John Charles Balfour was born on 28 July 1919.1 He was the son of Brigadier Edward William Sturgis Balfour, 9th of Balbirnie and Lady Ruth Balfour.1 He married Dr. Elizabeth Jean Drew, daughter of Maj.-Gen. Sir James Sydney Drew, in 1950.1 He died on 21 May 2009 at age 89 at Markinch, Fife, Scotland.2
