     Francis Spring was born on 3 April 1821.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. William Collis Spring and Anne Carter.1 He married Sara Ellen Day, daughter of Edward Day, in 1853.2 He died on 7 July 1857 at age 36 at Jhelum, India, killed in action.1
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He gained the rank of officer in the 24th Foot.1 He fought in the Indian Mutiny.1
