Colonel Jacob Waley Cohen was born on 30 October 1874.2 He is the son of Nathaniel Louis Cohen and Julia Matilda Waley.2 He married, firstly, Katherine Cohen, daughter of Rt. Hon. Arthur Cohen and Emmeline Micholls, on 3 November 1897.1 He married, secondly, Evelyn Susanna A. Hales, daughter of Colonel Herbert Marwick Atherstone Hales, on 18 June 1934.2 He died on 12 July 1948 at age 73.2
He was educated at Clifton College, Clifton, Bristol, England.2 He gained the rank of officer in 1893 in the Queen's Westminster Rifle Volunteers.2 He was educated at Merton College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.2 He fought in the Boer War in 1900, where he was mentioned in dispatches.2 He gained the rank of Brigade Signaling Officer in the 21st Infantry Brigade.2 He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.)2 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in dispatches.2 He gained the rank of officer in the Queen's Westminster Rifles.2 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1916.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1919.2 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1926.2 He gained the rank of Colonel in the Royal Corps of Signals (TA.)2

Winifred Emmeline Cohen was born on 25 November 1881.1 She was the daughter of Rt. Hon. Arthur Cohen and Emmeline Micholls.2 She married Colonel Bernard Arnold Barrington Butler, son of Spencer Percival Butler, on 24 July 1905.1 She died on 10 July 1965 at age 83.1
