Sir James Mansfield was born in 1733.1 He was the son of John James Mansfield and Elizabeth Fezard.2 He married Grace Clayton in April 1765 at St. Margaret's, Westminster, London, England.3 He died on 23 November 1821.1
He graduated from King's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1758 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was admitted to Middle Temple in 1758 entitled to practise as a barrister.1 He was appointed King's Counsel (K.C.) in 1772.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Cambridge University between 1779 and 1784.1 He held the office of Solicitor-General between 1780 and 1782.1 He held the office of Solicitor-General in 1783.1 He held the office of Treasurer of Middle Temple in 1785.1 He held the office of Lord Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas between 1804 and 1814.1
