     Rear-Admiral James de Courcy Hamilton was born on 1 February 1860 at Heacham, Norfolk, England.^1,2 He was the son of John de Courcy Hamilton and Anna Chapman Hilhouse.¹ He married Mabel Eveline Sang in 1901.¹ He died on 24 February 1936 at age 76 at 5 Dawson Place, London, England.^1,2
     He fought in the Egyptian War in 1882.¹ He was chief officer of the London Fire brigade between 1903 and 1909.¹ He was appointed Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) in 1909.¹ He retired from the military in 1910, with the rank of Rear-Admiral.¹ He held the office of Younger Brother of Trinity House.¹
