Sir Leonard Ropner, 1st Bt. was born on 26 February 1895.2 He was the son of William Ropner and Sarah Woolacott Cory.2 He married Esme Robertson, daughter of William Bruce Robertson, on 23 June 1932.2 He died on 12 October 1977 at age 82.2
He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, England.2 He fought in the First World War.2 He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Garrison Artillery.2 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1918.2 He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.)2 He was commander of the Durham Heavy Brigade, Royal Artillery between 1919 and 1928.2 He was member of the County Durham T&AFA between 1920 and 1961.2 He graduated from Clare College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1922 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)2 He was Justice of the Peace (J.P.) in 1923.2 He was senior partner of Sir R Ropner & Company.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.)
