Mary Chivers is the daughter of Seacole Chivers.2 She married Rt. Hon. John Methuen, son of Paul Methuen and Sarah (?), circa 16 February 1671/72.1

Sir Paul Methuen was born in 1672.1 He was the son of Rt. Hon. John Methuen and Mary Chivers.2 He died on 11 April 1757, unmarried.1
He was with the Diplomatic Service after 1690.1 He was Envoy to Portugal between 1697 and 1705.1 He was Minister to Turin in 1705.1 He held the office of Ambassador to Portugal between 1706 and 1708.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Devizes between 1708 and 1710.1 He held the office of Lord of the Admiralty in 1709.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Brackley between 1713 and 1747.1 He held the office of Ambassador to Spain in 1714.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1714.1 He held the office of Ambassador to Morocco in 1714.1 He held the office of Lord of the Treasury between 1714 and 1717.1 He held the office of Secretary of State in 1716.1 He held the office of Comptroller of the Household in 1720.1 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Bath (K.B.) in 1725.1 He held the office of Comptroller of the Treasurer between 1725 and 1730.1 Methuen, Massachusetts was named after him.1
