Reverend Anthony Methuen was born in 1575.1 He was the son of Reverend Paul Methuen and Ann Rogers.2 He married Jane Taylor, daughter of Thomas Taylor.1 He died on 6 July 1640.1
He graduated from Queen's College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1599 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He graduated from St. Edmund Hall, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1601 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He graduated from St. Edmund Hall, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1609 with a Bachelor of Divinity (B.D.)1 He held the office of Canon of Lichfield in 1614.1 He was Vicar at Frome Sedwood, Somerset, England.1 He was Rector at Lamyat, Somerset, England.1

Jane Taylor was the daughter of Thomas Taylor.1 She married Reverend Anthony Methuen, son of Reverend Paul Methuen and Ann Rogers.1 She died on 2 March 1640/41.1

Paul Methuen was the son of Reverend Anthony Methuen and Jane Taylor.2 He married, firstly, Sarah (?)1 He married, secondly, Grace Ashe, daughter of John Ashe, circa 1650.1 He died in 1667.1

Rt. Hon. John Methuen was born circa 1650.1 He was the son of Paul Methuen and Sarah (?)2 He married Mary Chivers, daughter of Seacole Chivers, circa 16 February 1671/72.1 He died on 13 July 1706, with other issue (died young or unmarried):.1
He was educated in 1665 at St. Edmund Hall, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1674 entitled to practise as a barrister.1 He held the office of Master in Chancery in 1685.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Devizes between 1690 and 1705.1 He was Envoy to Portugal in 1691.1 He held the office of Lord CHancellor [Ireland] between 1697 and 1703.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.)1 He was Envoy to Portugal in 1702.1 He held the office of Ambassador to Portugal in 1703.1 In 1703 he concluded the Methuen Treaty (which resulted in Englishmen drinking dear port instead of cheap claret.)1
