Alexander Macdonald, 7th of Glenaladale was born circa 1712.2 He was the son of John Macdonald, 6th of Glenaladale and Mary Macdonald.2 He married Margaret Macdonell, daughter of Donald Macdonell, 4th of Scotus and Helen Meldrum.1 He died on 30 January 1761.1
He gained the rank of Major in the Clanranald Regiment.2 In 1745 he took an active part in Jacobite rising.1 He fought in the Battle of Culloden in 1746, where he was severely wounded.2
