Sir James Ivory was born on 17 February 1765 at Dundee, Angus, ScotlandG.1 He was the son of James Ivory and Jane Brown.1 He died on 21 September 1842 at age 77 at London, EnglandG, unmarried.1
He graduated from St. Andrew's University, St. Andrews, Fife, ScotlandG, in 1783 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was awarded the Copley Medal in 1814.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) in 1815.1 He propounded Ivory's Theorem.1 He was Professor of Mathematics at Royal Military College, Marlow, Buckinghamshire, EnglandG.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Hanoverian Order (K.C.H.) in 1831.1
