Lt.-Col. Norman FitzHerbert was born on 3 January 1858.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. Richard Henry FitzHerbert and Susan Castle.2 He married Esther Beresford Sproule, daughter of Henry Sproule, on 28 April 1908.1 He died on 21 February 1943 at age 85, without issue.1
He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1900 and 1901.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1919.1
