General Sir John Floyd, 1st Bt. was born on 22 February 1748.2 He was the son of John Floyd and Mary Bate.2 He married, firstly, Rebecca Juliana Darke, daughter of Charles Darke, on 29 January 1791.2 He married, secondly, Anne Morgell, daughter of Crosbie Morgell, on 29 July 1805.1 He died on 10 January 1818 at age 69.2
He gained the rank of Cornet in 1760 in the Eliot's Light Horse (15th Hussars.)2 He fought in the Battle of Emsdorf in 1760.2 He gained the rank of Colonel in the 19th Light Dragoons.2 He gained the rank of Colonel in the 8th Light Dragoons.2 He was commander of the cavalry of the Mysore campaigns between 1790 and 1799.2 He fought in the Capture of Seringapatam in 1799, as second in charge.2 He held the office of Governor of Gravesend Fort.2 He held the office of Governor of Tilbury Fort.2 He was created 1st Baronet Floyd [U.K.] on 30 March 1816.2
