Sir Maurice Buidhe fitz John, 1st Knight of Kerry was born illegitimately.1 He was the son of John fitz Thomas.2 He died in 1346, a prisoner in Dublin.1
His mother was traditionally the wife of O'Cinneidigh.1 He was the ancestor of the Knights of Kerry, or Black Knights.3 He was also known as Maurice Buidhe O'Cinneidigh.1 He was created 1st Knight of Kerry either created by King Edward III after the Battle of Halidon Hill, or by virute of his father's status as a Count Palatine on 19 July 1333.1
