Major Samuel Charles Chetwode Townsend was born on 25 July 1870.1 He was the son of Major John Crewe Chetwode Townsend and Frances Dorothea Townshend.2 He married Mary Young Townsend, daughter of Edward Townsend and Judith Townsend, on 26 June 1897.1 He died on 1 May 1904 at age 33, accidentally shot.1
