He was awarded the Efficiency Decoration (E.D.)1 He was Lieutenant Colonel of the 1st Battalion, Canadian Scottish Regiment.1 He fought in the Second World War between 1944 and 1945, in France and North-West Europe, where he was wounded, and was mentioned in despatches.1 He was awarded the Bronze Lion of Netherlands.1

Ida Hardcastle was the daughter of Frank Hardcastle.1 She married, firstly, Major Frank Harvey Corbett before 1925.1 She married, secondly, Lt.-Col. Desmond Gerald Crofton, son of Alfred Gerald Crofton and Frances Nora Wilson, on 22 January 1925.1 She died in 1970.1
