Maurice FitzGerald, 1st and last Viscount Decies was born in 1530.2 He was the son of Gerald FitzJohn FitzGerald and Lady Ellice Butler.2 He married Ellen FitzGerald, daughter of Sir John FitzThomas FitzGerald.1 He died on 28 December 1572, without issue.2

Edmond Butler was born after 1558.1 He was the son of James Butler and Honora O'Dwyer.2,3 He married Dorothy O'Carroll, daughter of Kian O'Carroll, in 1604.1 He died on 1 August 1637.1
Circa 1577 he succeeded his grandfather in Grallagh, but after protracted legal proceedings exchanged it for Boytonrath.1 In 1579 he was a minor when his wardship was in the hands of 10th Earl of Ormonde.1 In 1599/0 he took part in the O'Neill RebellIon.1 On 11 April 1600 he was pardoned.1 On 27 March 1626 he conveyed one quarter of his estates to trustees for use of his grandson Edmond by family settlement.1
