James Butler, 7th Baron Dunboyne was the son of William Butler, 4th Baron Dunboyne and Elizabeth Plunket.1 He married Mór Marina O'Brien, daughter of Donnchadh O'Brien.1 He died in 1445.1
He succeeded as the 7th Baron Dunboyne [I., 1324] in 1419.1 He was Keeper of the Peace for County Tipperary in 1425.1
