     Lady Laura Manners was the daughter of John Manners and Louisa Tollemache, Countess of Dysart.¹ She married John William Henry Dalrymple, 7th Earl of Stair, son of General William Dalrymple and Marianne Dorothy Harland, on 2 June 1808.^1,2 She and John William Henry Dalrymple, 7th Earl of Stair were divorced on 16 July 1811.¹ She died on 11 July 1834, without issue.¹
     Her married name became Dalrymple. On 13 March 1821 her name was legally changed to Laura Tollemache by Royal Licence.¹

     John Hamilton Dalrymple, 8th Earl of Stair was born on 15 June 1771.¹ He was the son of Sir John Dalrymple-Hamilton-Makgill, 4th Bt. and Elizabeth Hamilton-Makgill.² He married, firstly, Harriet Johnson, daughter of Reverend Robert Augustus Johnson, on 23 June 1795.¹ He married, secondly, Hon. Adamina Duncan, daughter of Admiral Adam Duncan, 1st Viscount Duncan of Camperdown and Henrietta Dundas, on 8 June 1825.¹ He died on 10 January 1853 at age 81, without issue.²
     He was given the name of John Dalrymple-Hamilton-Makgill at birth.² He succeeded as the 5th Baronet Dalrymple, of Cousland [N.S., 1698] on 26 February 1810.² He held the office of Keeper of the Great Seal of Scotland.¹ He was appointed Knight, Order of the Thistle (K.T.)¹ He gained the rank of Colonel in the 46th Foot.¹ He succeeded as the 9th Baronet Dalrymple, of Stair [N.S., 1664] on 22 March 1840.² He succeeded as the 8th Lord Newliston, Glenluce and Stranraer [S., 1703] on 22 March 1840.² He succeeded as the 8th Earl of Stair [S., 1703] on 22 March 1840.² He succeeded as the 8th Viscount Dalrymple [S., 1703] on 22 March 1840.² He succeeded as the 9th Lord Glenluce and Stranraer [S., 1690] on 22 March 1840.² He succeeded as the 9th Earl of Stair [S., 1690] on 22 March 1840.² He was created 1st Baron Oxenford of Cousland [U.K.] on 16 August 1841.² He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.³
     

     Sir John Dalrymple-Hamilton-Makgill, 4th Bt. was born in 1726.² He was the son of Sir William Dalrymple of Cousland, 3rd Bt. and Agnes Crawford.³ He married Elizabeth Hamilton-Makgill, daughter of Thomas Hamilton-Makgill and Elizabeth Dalrymple, on 7 March 1760.¹ He died on 26 February 1810.³
     He was given the name of John Dalrymple at birth.³ He held the office of Baron of the Court of the Exchequer of Scotland.³ He succeeded as the 4th Baronet Dalrymple, of Cousland [N.S., 1698] circa 17 March 1771.¹ He wrote the book Memoirs of Great Britain and Ireland.³

     Elizabeth Hamilton-Makgill was the daughter of Thomas Hamilton-Makgill and Elizabeth Dalrymple.² She married Sir John Dalrymple-Hamilton-Makgill, 4th Bt., son of Sir William Dalrymple of Cousland, 3rd Bt. and Agnes Crawford, on 7 March 1760.¹
     From 7 March 1760, her married name became Dalrymple-Hamilton-Makgill.

     Thomas Hamilton-Makgill was the son of Colonel Thomas Hamilton and Elizabeth Stewart.^2,3 He married Elizabeth Dalrymple, daughter of Sir John Dalrymple of Cousland, 2nd Bt..¹ He died in 1779.¹
     He lived at Fala, Midlothian, Scotland^G.¹ He was given the name of Thomas Hamilton at birth.¹ His name was legally changed to Thomas Hamilton-Makgill.¹ In 1758 he succeeded to the Oxfuird estates.¹

     Harriet Johnson was the daughter of Reverend Robert Augustus Johnson.¹ She married John Hamilton Dalrymple, 8th Earl of Stair, son of Sir John Dalrymple-Hamilton-Makgill, 4th Bt. and Elizabeth Hamilton-Makgill, on 23 June 1795.¹ She died on 16 October 1823.¹
     Her married name became Dalrymple.

     Hon. Adamina Duncan was the daughter of Admiral Adam Duncan, 1st Viscount Duncan of Camperdown and Henrietta Dundas. She married John Hamilton Dalrymple, 8th Earl of Stair, son of Sir John Dalrymple-Hamilton-Makgill, 4th Bt. and Elizabeth Hamilton-Makgill, on 8 June 1825.¹ She died on 1 August 1857.¹
     Her married name became Dalrymple.

     Admiral Adam Duncan, 1st Viscount Duncan of Camperdown was born on 1 July 1731 at Dundee, Angus, Scotland^G.¹ He was the son of Alexander Duncan, 3rd of Lundie and Helen Haldane.¹ He married Henrietta Dundas, daughter of Rt. Hon. Robert Dundas of Arniston and Henrietta Carmichael, on 6 June 1777. He died on 4 August 1804 at age 73 at Corn Hill, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland^G, from gout.³
     He was commissioned in 1746, in the service of the Royal Navy.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1755.¹ He gained the rank of Commander in 1759.¹ He gained the rank of Post Captain in 1761, when he commanded at the surrender of Havana.¹ He fought in the Battle of St. Vincent on 16 January 1780, where he distinguished himself.¹ He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral of the Blue in 1787.¹ He gained the rank of Vice-Admiral in 1793.¹ He gained the rank of Admiral of the Blue in 1795.¹ He was Commander-in-Chief of the North Seas between 1795 and 1801.¹ In 1797 he helped to suppress the Muntiny of the Nore.⁴ He fought in the Battle of Camperdown on 11 October 1797, defeating the Dutch fleet off Camperdown.¹ He was created 1st Viscount Duncan of Camperdown [Great Britain] on 30 October 1797.¹ He was created 1st Baron Duncan of Lundie, co. Perth [Great Britain] on 30 October 1797.¹ He was appointed Knight, Order of St. Alexander Newski of Russia on 5 December 1797.¹ He gained the rank of Admiral of the White in 1799.¹ He inherited the estate of Lundie from his elder brother, Alexander.¹

     Lady Mary Grey was the daughter of Forde Grey, 1st Earl of Tankerville and Lady Mary Berkeley. She married Charles Bennet, 1st Earl of Tankerville, son of John Bennet, 1st Baron Ossulston and Bridget Howe, on 3 July 1695.¹ She died on 31 May 1710.²
     After her marriage, Lady Mary Grey was styled as Baroness Ossulston on 3 July 1695. From 3 July 1695, her married name became Bennet.
