William Dalrymple of Glenmure, son of John Dalrymple, 1st Earl of Stair and Elizabeth Dundas, on 26 February 1697/98.¹ She died on 6 March 1741/42.¹

     Colonel Hon. William Dalrymple of Glenmure was born at Sanquar, Dumfries-shire, Scotland^G.² He was the son of John Dalrymple, 1st Earl of Stair and Elizabeth Dundas.^1,3 He married Penelope Crichton, Countess of Dumfries, daughter of Charles Crichton, Lord Crichton and Sarah Dalrymple, on 26 February 1697/98.¹ He died on 3 December 1744.¹
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Ayrshire [Scotland].¹ He lived at Glenmure, Scotland^G.¹

     John Dalrymple, 1st Earl of Stair was the son of James Dalrymple, 1st Viscount of Stair and Margaret Ross.³ He married Elizabeth Dundas, daughter of Sir John Dundas, circa 18 January 1668/69.³ He died on 8 January 1707.⁴
