Alma Cowes is the daughter of W. G. Cowes.1 She married, firstly, J. C. Drysdale before 1942.1 She married, secondly, Maj.-Gen. Robert Hutchison, 1st and last Baron Hutchison of Montrose, son of Alexander Hutchison and Margaret Key, on 28 April 1942.1 She married, thirdly, Brigadier I. L. W. D. Laurie on 9 December 1954.1
From before 1942, her married name became Drysdale.1 After her marriage, Alma Cowes was styled as Baroness Hutchison of Montrose on 28 April 1942. From 28 April 1942, her married name became Hutchison.1 From 9 December 1954, her married name became Laurie.1

John Scott Hindley, 1st Viscount Hyndley was born on 24 October 1883.1 He was the son of Reverend William Talbot Hindley and Caroline Scott.1 He married Vera Westall, daughter of James Westall, on 1 July 1901.1 He died on 5 January 1963 at age 79, without male issue.1
He was educated at Weymouth College, Weymouth, Dorset, EnglandG.1 He was appointed Knight Bachelor in 1921.1 He was created 1st Baronet Hindley, of Meads, co. Sussex [U.K.] on 22 January 1927.1 He was a director of the Bank of England between 1931 and 1945.1 He was managing director of Powell Duffryn Ltd between 1931 and 1946.1 He was created 1st Baron Hyndley, of Meads, co. Sussex [U.K.] on 21 January 1931.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the British Empire (G.B.E.) in 1939.1 He was chairman of the National Coal Board between 1946 and 1951.1 He was created 1st Viscount Hyndley, of Meads, co. Sussex [U.K.] on 2 February 1948.1 On his death, all of his titles became extinct.1
